What is a Section?

SR-5 MapThe Order of the Arrow consists of four regions: Southern, Northeast, Central, and Western. Each of these regions is made of up sections. Our section, Southern Region Section 5 (SR-5), consists of ten lodges from all of South Carolina and parts of North Carolina and Georgia. Every year, the lodges in a section gather for an event known as a conclave. Our section is unique because we have called it the “Dixie Fellowship” since the 1950’s. During a conclave, a section gathers for fellowship and the sharing of skills and best practices. Over the years, SR-5 has distinguished itself through a nationally-known program held at the Dixie Fellowship. From our unique competitions such as totem pole carving to patch trading, spirit, and amazing food, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who can attend.

In addition to a conclave, the section is responsible for the year-round monitoring and guidance of its lodges. A section is led by three youth officers who are elected at each conclave: the Section Chief, Section Vice Chief, and Section Secretary. These leaders are advised by an adult Section Adviser and professional Section Staff Adviser. The Council of Chiefs is the core leadership body of the section. The Council of Chiefs consists of the three Section Officers, the ten Lodge Chiefs, and the Section Coordinators.
