The story is legendary.
Back in 1996, two SR-5 Lodge Chiefs setup shop in a cozy little hamlet
known as “Shack Right”, one of the staff cabins at Camp Daniel Boone
outside Asheville, NC. Spending ten weeks in a little cabin working on
camp staff during the summer and sneaking off to a HORDE tour concert or
two (featuring Blues Traveler and Dave Matthews Band) can lead to some pretty interesting discussions.
One of the central themes that kept reappearing was the need for an
infusion of new ideas in each lodge as a part of their yearly training program. Both were frustrated by
the stagnation of the LLDC program taught within the lodge and felt
something, anything had to exist to offer breathtaking new concepts for
lodge leaders. So, with a few bold ideas they mapped out an entirely new
concept in training. Their creation would bridge the gap between the
existing LLDC and NLS to offer a lodge’s leadership a “nuts and bolts”
type symposium with world class trainers from around the nation.
At the
end of the summer, Jay went back to Georgia to test out their creation
on the only willing guinea pig, his lodge, while Tee became SR-5’s new
Section Chief. As other Lodge Chiefs learned of their creation, many
were eager to see the plan in action so that all SR-5 lodges could
benefit from the knowledge sharing. With the blessing of Council of
Chiefs, ArrowTech was born in November of 1998 at the University of
South Carolina and the Clarion Town House Hotel and Suites.
Over the
years, ArrowTech has grown and expanded to be an integral part of our Section’s
training program while never losing sight of its original purpose: to
offer world class training focusing on "nuts and bolts" leadership
skills with the best trainers in the Order. SR-5
hosts the Dixie Fellowship, one of the largest conclaves in the Nation, and encompasses some of
the best, brightest, and strongest lodges. We think it’s because we also
have the most well trained lodge leaders in the Nation.
Since 1998 our
homegrown leadership conference has been duplicated and recreated in
other Sections including Order of the Arrow University (OAU), ArrowHEADS,
and OATech. |
