Congratulations on your son’s membership in the Order of the Arrow (OA)! His election shows that the other members of his Boy Scout troop felt he exhibited Scouting’s principles and would give cheerful service to others. As you may know, most of the OA events in which your son will participate will take place locally with the OA lodge. Once each year, the ten lodges spread across all of South Carolina and parts of North Carolina and Georgia (called a “section” or “Section SR-5”) gather at a Boy Scout camp for a fun-filled weekend called the “Dixie Fellowship”. Around other sections in the country, it’s commonly referred to as a Conclave.
The 2018 SR-5 Dixie Fellowship will be held the weekend of April 27 – 29 at Anne Springs Close Greenway near Fort Mill, SC and is expected to be attended by well over 1,000 Arrowmen from across the three states.
If your son has expressed an interest in attending the 2018 SR-5 Dixie Fellowship, please consider allowing him to attend. Dixie is the premier event for both youth and adults and one of the highlights of the OA year! The Dixie Fellowship is a full weekend of activities and experiences designed to take Scouting to the next level for your son.
During the Dixie Fellowship, your son will experience specialized leadership training in addition to numerous other topics such as camping, delve into the American Indian culture, have the opportunity to participate in friendly competitions, and most of all, have a ton of fun!
As you can see, the 2018 Dixie Fellowship will be an action-packed and fulfilling event, just like it has been for the past 66 years. Your son is sure to have a fantastic weekend and grow as an individual and leader. He will have the chance to make new friends his age from across the states of SC, NC, and GA, and make memories that will last a lifetime. We truly hope you will consider permitting your son to enjoy the 2018 SR-5 Dixie Fellowship. If you have any further questions about Dixie, be sure to reach out to your lodge leadership or feel free to contact one of us directly.
