The Dixie Fellowship is known around the nation as one
of the best conclaves out there. At 1100 participants, this
year it has the honor of not only being the best OA event in
the year, but also, in all likelihood, the largest. Our
brothers in Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge #185 put on a great
fellowship for us at Camp Old Indian in the beautiful Blue
Ridge Mountains.
The weekend started out with a show featuring a skit from
the Section Officers, a slide show of Section history, an
address from the Region Chief, and the announcement of a
lottery for 5 scholarships from the Section for OA high
adventure.
Saturday started out with training sessions offered by
our Lodges. After training we had our traditional midday
spirit gathering, at which Muscogee showed a tremendous
amount of spirit and even went on to win the Spirit Award.
The quest events later in the day were interrupted by rain,
but the participants went enjoying the day and participating
in quest events that did not have to be canceled due to the
rain. Skyuka went on to win the Quest for the Golden Arrow
with Santee coming in second and Tsali and Catawba tied for
third. While all of this was going on, the Lodges also
participated in American Indian events including dancing and
ceremonies.
On Saturday night, the Section enjoyed group dance and
team sing from several Lodges. The Section also elected
Section officers for the 2010-2011 business year. John
Cuenin, the former Section Vice-Chief and Lodge Chief of
Muscogee Lodge, was elected to be the new Section Chief.
James Hylemon, the Lodge Chief of Tsali Lodge, was elected
Section Vice-Chief. Patrick Garcia, the incumbent Section
Secretary from the Bob White Lodge, was re-elected.
At the end of a long, fun-filled weekend, Tsali Lodge was
named Lodge of the Year and seven Lodges were named Section
Honor Lodges as follows:
• Bob White
• Tsali
• Santee
• Skyuka
• Catawba
• Atta Kulla Kulla
• Eswau Huppeday
Every award cannot be covered here, so please see the
awards page for a complete list.
The 2010 Dixie Fellowship was a tremendous success and
anyone who missed it should try to make it to Dixie next
year. The weekend is an amazing way to have first class
training and to fellowship with brothers from Georgia, South
Carolina, and North Carolina. Dixie 2011 will be held April
15-17, 2011 at Camp Daniel Boone with Tsali acting as the
service lodge.
