 With
1042 Arrowmen in attendance, the 2008 Dixie Fellowship was a
blast for all participants young and old! Held at The Anne
Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, SC, Skyuka Lodge #270
served as host for a great weekend full of events and
training exercises. Starting with an energizing band and
show on Friday night, each Arrowmen was given a preview of
what would prove to be a great weekend for Scouting.
The Dixie Fellowship is known across the nation as one of
the largest section conclaves and gatherings of Arrowmen in
a single place. Our conclave is widely known for good reason
as the weekend offered excellent training opportunities by
some of the OA’s most enthusiastic and dedicated youth
leaders in our region. During lunch assembly, Arrowmen
gathered for Spirit Assembly, one of the most anticipated
events of the day. Tomo Chi-Chi Lodge came out with the
biggest passion and spirit for the day and took home the
Dixie Spirit Award. In the afternoon, the 11 participating
lodges engaged in competition against each other in the
infamous Quest for the Golden Arrow. Muscogee Lodge won the
overall Quest for the Golden Arrow events with Skyuka and
Bob White trailing close behind. In addition to Quest for
the Golden Arrow, the lodges participated in American Indian
Events.
On Saturday night, the lodges gathered together for Section
Officer elections. Josh Hipps, the incumbent Section Chief
from Atta Kulla Kulla, was named the 2008-2009 Section
Chief. Peter McAnulty, Eswau Huppeday Lodge Chief, was named
2008-2009 Section Vice-Chief and Garrett Riddle, incumbent
Section Secretary from Atta Kulla Kulla, was named 2008-2009
Section Secretary.
After vigorous competition and events, Muscogee Lodge went
home with Lodge of the Year for 2008. Four lodges were
awarded Section Honor Lodge as follows:
• Atta Kulla Kulla
• Muscogee
• Skyuka
• Unali’yi
Many awards were received during the weekend for the various
competitions. A complete list can be found
[here].
If you were unable to attend Dixie Fellowship 2008, we
strongly encourage you to attend next year. The weekend is a
great leadership and fellowship opportunity with Arrowmen
from all over Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
Dixie Fellowship 2009 will be held by Eswau Huppeday Lodge
on April 24-26, 2009. |
